There was the Candescent Jackalope, galumphing about, moving andante, returning again, and, anxious, looking around, as he went, as if he had lost something or other, and the Khniîkhan Princess heard its saying to itself, “Oh Blue Duchess! Oh Orange Duchess! Oh my lovely horns! Oh my fur and whiskers!

Alixhlìnye guessed, understanding in a moment that he was searching for the hand fan and a pair of white gloves of qhoraîfhe dinosaur leather, and she, being compassionate, began hunting all o'er the place for them, but they were not seen in any place.

All things seemed to have changed themselves, after she swung in the pool of teardrops, and the great teahall, and the glass table, and the little door had altogether vanished.

Very soon the Jackalope happened to notice Alixhlìnye, as she was hunting here and there, and he called out to her, saying in an angry tone to her, “Oh Olenótha, handmaiden, my girl, why are you frolicking from this place? Be it that you go home, running this very moment, as you fetch a pair of gloves with a hand fan for me. Be quick now!”

And Alixhlìnye was so terrified that she ran, going suddenly towards the direction which he indicated, but she did not attempt to explain the Jackalope’s mistake.

But ‘tis best that I lead and bring the hand fan and gloves to him, provided that, in fact, I can find such.” Saying these words, she chanced to arrive at a trig, trim, and small triangular and circular house on whose door extended a bright, brazen sign, engrave with the words, “Our Household, the Moonwhite Jackalopes.”

Before not knocking on the door, she went in and hurried to go up the middle of the stars in mighty fear, lest she accidentally meet the actual Olenótha for the first time, and so be tossed out of the house, before finding the hand fan and gloves.
